What’s Included In Our Road Cycling Holiday

Cycling Is Just the Start

The Region

Our road cycling holiday takes us to Mont Ventoux, the isolated outpost that has become the dominating landmark of this region in Provence.
The cities of Carpentras and Avignon are within striking distance, and even Marseille is only about 100km away.
The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate and is usually relatively warm, meaning that conditions in September are usually ideal for road cycling.
We will also take full advantage of the many gastronomic delights that this region has to offer.

6 Guided Tours

Our holiday week offers you 6 guided tours. We cycle in 2 groups organized according to speed and ability.
Our aim is to discover the hidden treasures that Provence has to offer without forgetting that we are also on holiday. For this reason, we have selected slightly shorter tours of around 60 to 80 km each day with between 1000 and 1500 vertical meters.
Climbing Mont Ventoux, the iconic Tour de France classic, is of course the highlight of this holiday. We provide you with a road book that contains the most important information about the route each evening before the planned tour

Spa and Hotel

Our spa and hotel in Malaucène, situated directly at the foot of Mont Ventoux, has both outdoor and indoor pools, and offers massages and other spa services.
Ample parking, a secure bike garage and of course free Wi-Fi are also available.
Our Rilassato holiday motto is suitably reflected by the shorter tours, which give us ample time to indulge in the superior spa facilities available.

Provencal Cuisine

Breakfast is provided by the hotel. The evening meal is also included in the price, but we will also take the opportunity to sample some of the local restaurants, to experience the full culinary variety that this beautiful region has to offer.

Born in 1946 near Bern. As a sickly child, I first discovered an interest for tennis and then athletics aged 16. My desire to make up for lost time was hampered by a series of injuries until in 1968 doctors recommended I take up cycling, which became an instant passion. I started racing as an amateur for a team from Zurich, though it was some time before I became a good mountain and time trialist.
At 46, I discovered ultra-cycling races and first took part in the Race Across America in 1992. I took part in 1993, 1995 und 1997, but only finished successfully in 1995 and 1997. In 2000, I resigned from my management position and turned my hobby to my profession, with the slight drawback that doing so meant I no longer had a hobby.
I took on the management of a cycling organization in Majorca, which also involved various overseas tours during the course of my 15 year career with them.
After 48 years and over a million cycling kilometers, I was ready to take life slightly more easy, but meeting Lukas on a Swiss round tour in 2016 (organized by qualdich.de) changed all that. I have now rediscovered not only my hobby but also my passion for photography.

Getting Here

Travel Is Not Included

By Car

Driving time from the Calais area is between 8 and 11 hours. Breaking the journey somewhere north of Dijon is a popular option to leave a shorter 4 to 5 hour drive on the second day.
The road tolls from Calais are approximately 70€ each way.

In the interests of sustainability, we are happy to help organize carpooling with other guests in advance where possible

By Train

Due to the speed and efficiency of the French railways this is becoming a very popular way of getting to the South of France.
A direct Eurostar service is available from St. Pancras to Avignon every Saturday in July, August and September (www.eurostar.com). Alternatively, you can change at Lille and get the TGV to Avignon.
From Avignon, you can either take a bus to the centre of Avignon and then a regional bus to Malaucène. Alternatively, you can take one of the regional train services to Carpentras. Note that the journey time is around 3 hours and that there is no station in Malaucène. If necessary, we can arrange to collect you from Carpentras. If your bike is packed in a bike case, there is no charge and it can be treated as standard luggage

By Air

A number of carriers, such as Ryanair, British Airways and Easyjet, fly from various UK airports to Avignon, Nimes or Marseille, which are all about an hour from Malaucène. Information about public transport options from Avignon to Malaucène is described above under Getting Here By Train. A number of airport transfer companies also offer shuttle services from the airport
